  • Actor Allusion: Othello's voiced by Terrence Carson, the voice of Kratos. Othello's real name and his facial markings being a reminiscence of Kratos's also reflects this.
  • Executive Meddling: The first release suffered in equal parts from this and Internet Backdraft.
  • Genre Killer: The reception and sales of this game, along with the tendency favoring cover-based games and the apparition of several free arcade FPS, were the last straw for commercial fast-paced shooters.
  • Hey, It's That Voice!:
    • Steven Blum voices the male Iron Guard members and the Liandri robots.
    • Iona Morris, the voice of Storm in the 90's X-Men cartoon, voices the Ronin and Iron Guard females, sans Lauren (Sirena Irwin) and Jester. (Andrea Baker)
    • Fred Tatasciore, the voice of Hulk, voices the Ronin males (sans Reaper -Chris Cox-, Othello -Terrence Carson- and Bishop -Nolan North-) and several Krall.
    • Who would've thought that Depth Charge was a Krall?
    • Chris Cox, also known as Captain Atom and the Silver Surfer, is the voice of Reaper.
    • Terrence "Kratos" Carson is the voice of Othello.
    • Andrea Baker, a.k.a. Clover, is the voice of Jester.
    • Nolan "Deadpool" North is the voice of Bishop.
    • Greg Eagles voices Malcolm in Unreal Tournament III, being The Other Darrin from Patrick Amos, which means that Grim took several levels in badassery and became the Tournament's champion.
    • Sirena Irwin vices Lauren in this game. Persephone Cliche carrying a Shock Rifle, yeah.
  • The Other Darrin: Tanika Cato voiced Lauren in Unreal Championship 2. Sirena Irwin takes the role for Unreal Tournament III.
    • Patrick Amos voiced Malcolm in Unreal Championship 2. Greg Eagles took the role for Unreal Tournament III.
  • Vaporware: The Linux and Mac ports. Since it's release date, Epic Games stated time and time again that they had contracted Ryan "Icculus" Gordon (who created or at least took a part in the ports for these platforms of many other games, including past Unreal installments) to create the Linux and Mac ports of the game. Screenshots showed up, there were messages about the development, but it wasn't until December 2010 that it was confirmed that those ports will never happen. Couple this with Epic giving lower priority to a PC game, (they were more involved in the next Gears of War games and Bulletstorm) and we have a sad cocktail.
  • What Could Have Been: The game had a lot of broken promises, with the most prominent one being massive multi-player battles which involved giant maps and up to 64 players. This mode was going to be called Conquest, and it was replaced by Warfare.
  • Working Title: Unreal Tournament 2007 (there was a trailer which had a logo with this entry) and Envy.
