Training the Peaceful Villagers/Playing With

Basic Trope: A heroic character teaches a normally peaceful group of people how to defend themselves.

  • Straight: Alice teaches the people of Troperia, a group of subsistence farmers, how to fight off Emperor Evulz' attacks.
  • Exaggerated: Alice teaches the people of Troperia, a group of dedicated pacifists, how to fight off Emperor Evulz' attacks.
  • Justified: Alice can't be everywhere at once. At the very least, a strong force of villagers will be able to hold off the forces of evil until she's able to arrive.
  • Inverted: Alice tries to teach the savage, warlike brutes of Troperia how to be civil and kind.
  • Subverted: The villagers refuse to let Alice train them, citing the fact that they dislike violence.
    • Alternatively: The villagers already know how to fight.
  • Double Subverted: However, after another attack from Emperor Evulz, they change their minds.
    • Alternatively: However, defending against Emperor Evulz's army is very different to fighting off a few bandits. Alice teaches them to be more effective.
  • Parodied: The people of Troperia go from scrawny, weak-minded pacifists to incredibly efficient badasses over the course of one montage.
  • Deconstructed: The peaceful villagers are no match for Evulz, and go down fighting.
    • Alternatively, the villagers are now able to defend their homeland, but they're not so much "peaceful" anymore, having lost their innocence.
    • Alternatively, the villagers defend their homeland successfully, but hold a massive grudge against Alice for her training.
    • Alternatively: The Evulz, an armed gang, demand the majority of the village's crops but the villagers defend their village sucessfully, in the process becoming a rallying point for surrounding villages. Fearing a rebellion, the Evulz react, slaughtering everyone and razing the first village to rebel to the ground.
  • Reconstructed: The villagers begrudgingly admit that the training was for the best as they are now able to defend their homeland.
  • Zig Zagged: The villagers refuse to allow Alice to train them, but some change their mind after an attack from Emperor Evulz. However, the key word is "some"...
  • Averted: Alice sees no need to train the villagers.
  • Enforced: "Eh, I'm tired of writing stories where Alice kicks Emperor Evulz' butt. How about we just show Alice training some other people to protect themselves?"
  • Lampshaded: "Alright, people, if you don't want to keep being Evulz' lapdogs, then I suggest you follow me and start training!"
  • Invoked: Alice sees some of the people from the village being slaughtered. She takes it upon herself to make sure that doesn't happen to the rest of them.
  • Defied: The villagers straight up refuse their training. They'd rather die than lose their peaceful, innocent ways.
  • Discussed: "Are you as sick of this training as I am?"
  • Conversed: ???
