Toonami/Tear Jerker
"Well, this is the end, beautiful friends. After more than 11 years, this is Toonami's final broadcast. It's been a lot of fun, and we'd like to thank each and every one of you who made this journey with us. Toonami wouldn't have been anything without you. Hopefully we've left you with some good memories. So, until we meet again, stay gold.
Bang."
- If you ever saw Toonami before it met its untimely end, it's impossible to see that and not feel a tear come to your eye.
- Steve Blum has stated at a con that recording that speech was among his most difficult to get through in his career.
- It's made even worse by a archived thread on 4chan from the last day of Toonami. Watching the reaction go from indifference and hostility at the block's unexplained changes to several anons proclaiming that "There has to be something we can do..." There are quite a few posts in there that also provoke Manly Tears, but on the whole it is an incredibly depressing read. It helps that the last show shown on Toonami was cult favorite Samurai Jack. Alas I can't find it now.
- I found a few, NSFW, of course: http://4chanarchive.org/brchive/dspl_thread.php5?thread_id=114527156&x=Toonami+Nostalgia+ http://4chanarchive.org/brchive/dspl_thread.php5?thread_id=5909238&x=Ways+in+which+Toonami+changedimproved+our+lives+.
- I believe this [dead link] may be what you're looking for. Be forewarned, this is... it's just... look, it's going to hurt, alright.
- Hell, the music itself ("Tycho: Cascade") comes from Adult Swim's soundtrack, "Ghostly Swim", and... well, I've heard it once without knowing what its purpose was, and now that I've seen that video... damn.
- I personally prefer to look away from TOM when looking at that speech, and try to focus on the mental image of his Cool Ship and his 3 original eyeless-mouthless models. Same old voice though...
- Arguably, this page itself used to be a Tear Jerker. Most of the entries here related directly to its cancellation before it was revived!
- If you ever saw Toonami before it met its untimely end, it's impossible to see that and not feel a tear come to your eye.
- This video is a huge Tear Jerker for this troper. He grew up watching Outlaw Star when he was a kid and continues to be moved by the nostalgia from that show. The deep, emotional message and quotes used for this promo also caused him to tear up.
- The April 1, 2012 one night revival on Adult Swim as part of their annual April Fool's stunt. Tears of joy, Manly Tears and tears of nostalgia all flowed freely as "Toonami" played shows from the glory days (including completely unexpected fare like Blue Submarine No. 6), Tom was brought back with new lines voiced by Steve Blum (who seemed to be shedding those nostalgia tears as well) and the previously posted "Broken Promises (Dreams)" promo was aired.
- Everyone is sure they cried tears of joy once [as] announced they will officially bring Toonami back on May 26th!
