No More Heroes is a Japanese game . . . starring as the main character a hopeless, pop-culture-obsessed social reject who spends most of his time whining, getting strung along by women, and being a generally unlikeable fuck-bend. So at least you can't fault it for understanding its audience.
This Hope guy has been established from the start as a whiny, weak, inept, cowardly, socially retarded mommy's-boy, so presumably he's the character most of the audience is meant to project onto.
