The Warriors (film)/YMMV

The film:

  • Adaptation Displacement: The movie is loosely based on little known book by Sol Yurick. In fact, it's more faithful to Xenophon's Anabasis than Yurick's modernized (and deconstructed) version.
  • Anticlimax Boss: Luther. In the film and in the game.
  • Crowning Moment of Funny: On the special edition DVD's actor interviews, James Remar relates a story of how he went down to Coney to see what gang life was like down there and to find a model for his character Ajax. He goes to a carney working one of the booths and asks him "So what kind of people hang around down here?" The carney smiles, spreads his arms, and declares proudly, "The worst kind!"
  • Cult Classic: The film was popular in its day, especially due to the controversy it created, but has found a second wind as a campy, violent cult classic.
  • Memetic Mutation: Cyrus's rallying cry of "Can you dig it?" and Luther's taunt, "Warriors, come out and play!" pop up all over the place.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks: A remake was in the works, but is now stuck in Development Hell. The remake would have changed the location to Los Angeles, changed the setting to modern times, and played everything dead serious, without any of the campiness that made the original so entertaining. Fans were up in arms for a while.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Cyrus' plan of uniting the gangs and taking over the city sounds like it would have made a great movie, but it's a red herring that is quickly scrapped and forgotten.
