The Violet Room

The Violet Room is an ongoing Kingdom Hearts Alternate Universe Fic by Sarehptar.

The story centers on Ienzo Amaryllis, a patient in the psychiatric ward of Rufus Memorial Hospital, and Myde Cistern, a new intern to the the ward. Ienzo spends his days writing on the walls of his hospital room, but the longer Myde spends around him, the more familiar Ienzo's story of "Demyx", "Zexion", and "Organization XIII" seems to be. As Myde and Ienzo remember who they were, they struggle to find their place in a world that no longer remembers them.

Notable for excellent characterization and masterful writing, the story ranges from very dark to comedic depending on the scene. The story contains many characters from the Kingdom Hearts series, as well as characters from The Jungle Book, Final Fantasy IX, Tarzan, and many more.

Tropes used in The Violet Room include:

It was a good thing Myde's brain was still organic matter and not fractals or data conversion or whatever the hell it was the Akashic Record had been talking about, because this was certainly a Does Not Compute moment. Mainframes crashing.

  • I Just Want to Be Normal: When Myde's angsting, this is the general reason for it.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: Ienzo, especially when he shows jealousy over Myde having control over his powers when Ienzo's only (possibly) opened a portal.
  • Important Haircut: Myde gets one in chapter 9 to illustrate the fact that he is changing back into Demyx. No one really notices.
  • Insanity Defense: Used by Ienzo when he's tried for attempted manslaughter against his father. It's the reason he's currently institutionalized.
  • The Intern: Myde at Rufus Memorial Hospital.
  • Laughing Mad: Ienzo, after he opens a dark portal.
  • Literary Allusion Title: From Edgar Allan Poe's "The Masque of the Red Death."
  • Making a Splash: Demyx when he was originally alive. And Myde as well, following chapter 7.
  • Meaningful Name: The main characters' last names. Amaryllis is a flower symbolizing beauty, pride, and determination, and a cistern is a tank for catching and holding rainwater.
  • Naive Newcomer: As The Intern, Myde is this to the hospital, but he (mostly) learns how things are a few chapters in.
  • Reference Overdosed: On top of literary references in every chapter and the usual Disney shout outs, things like Neopets, Fight Club, and Silent Hill are also mentioned.
  • Room Full of Crazy: The titular violet room.
  • Schedule Slip
  • The Schizophrenia Conspiracy: Averted, Kairi is stated to have Catatonic Schizophrenia. Possibly irrelevant, as Kairi is hinted to not have schizophrenia in the first place.
  • The Slacker: Hilariously, Ienzo, despite having a doctorate and at least two college degrees.
  • Talkative Loon: Chester Carroll.
  • Thoroughly Mistaken Identity: What Aerith believes Ienzo's belief of Myde being Demyx is. Subverted, as Ienzo's totally correct in his assumption.
  • Tomato in the Mirror: A twist on the usual trope: the readers are aware of said "tomato" from the start. Instead, it is Ienzo's and Myde's struggles to deal with the fact that they're still Nobodies that fuels much of the plot.
  • Troubled Fetal Position: Ienzo at one point in chapter 7.
  • Unspoken Plan Guarantee: The plan Ienzo thinks up to get the Akashic Record.
