The Veil of Madness

This page covers not only the original work but works based off it. If you find any other veil of madness works, please provide a link. The Viel of Madness is a science fiction short story that first appeared on the 4chan board /tg/.

1. The original, found here. 2. Sequel by Walrus Guy (highly unlikely to be the author of the original) here and here. 3. Another thread has two attempts at related stories (also not necessarily by either of them) (here and here), 3rd sequel by "Someone Else" The Veil of Madness, Torn here (diluted with the usual derp of imageboards), then another "troll the aliens" story. 4. "Supremacy Tournament [dead link] ". Since the Zannen are established as still feeling somewhat sour about the whole mess, they are "helped" to get it out of the system the hard way, if they want.

Tropes used in The Veil of Madness include:
  • Black Speech
  • Boldly Coming: T. Rollfaec likes the 'cosmic bogeyman' scam. He also is interested in females of humanoid enough species. Too bad for him, the former usually stands between him and the latter. Though in 2.2 he did meet one equally... xeno-curious.
  • Decapitated Army: Mankind's military in the movie 19: First Contact (#2.1).
  • Gratuitous Foreign Language: The movie 19: First Contact ("Affirmative Caption").
  • Humanity Is Insane: The common theory (generally accepted by both sides of the issue) is that humans are mostly immune to effect of the Veil due to being a little crazy to begin with.
    • After all, humans did pull the greatest practical joke in the Galaxy. And when this clearly became counterproductive, the humans' first act, even before removing The Masquerade publically, was to give aliens high-quality holographic projection... and immediately teach them to use it for pranking each other.
    • Insanity Immunity
  • Humans Are Cthulhu: Humans are able to keep their sanity inside the Veil of Madness.
  • Significant Anagram/Sdrawkcab Name: Human diplomats in #2 and #3 are "T. Rollfaec" and "Ulor Tilol".
  • Then Let Me Be Evil: Humans gave up on trying to get aliens to believe we were good, which is not entirely uncalled for becaues we had pirates that caused them problems. So we shifted our image from Omnicidal Maniacs to more reasonable evil that will accept tribute in exchange for not using violence.
  • The Unmasqued World: part 3 is named The Veil of Madness, Torn...
