The characters from the Fruits Basket Alternate Universe Fic The Swordsman and The Gunslinger.

Kyo Sohma

• The Atoner: He isn't too proud of his past.
• Badass: And how. Much more so than his canon counterpart.
• Fish Out of Water: Very much so. He even acknowledges this.
• The Hero
• Hot-Blooded: Even though he stays calm most of the time, he can get very angry
• Just Like Robin Hood: He is first seen helping some railroad workers with abusive foremen.
• Official Couple: If getting engaged pre-story counts, then he and Tohru are the Official Couple.
• Samurai: Even though he's technically not one, he does come from a samurai family.

Jimmy Michaels

• The American Civil War: Part of his backstory.
• The Atoner: Ditto.
• Badass: His badassitude is less pronounced than Kyo's but it's still prominent. Shooting and breaking two katanas with a rifle musket is a good indicator.
• The Drifter: Well, former drifter, anyway.
• The Gunslinger: He's the titular gunslinger, types 1 and 4.
• Halfbreed: He's Irish and Cherokee. But he's 4/5 Irish, so more like a Four-Fifths Breed.
• Handsome Lech: When he kisses karen.
• Heroic Sociopath: He's implied to be one, but he is also an atoner
• Hot-Blooded: He's usually low-key, but given the right moment, he can get pretty excited.
• The Lancer

Karen McKenzie

• Action Girl
• The Gunslinger: She wields a shotgun.
• Lady of War
• The Smart Guy
• Ship Tease: With Jimmy.
• Tsundere: A less violent type B. The most Tsun-Tsun she gets is slapping Jimmy once. Other than that, she playfully teases him.
  • Excpet when she slaps him after he kisses her in chapter 8.

Tohru Honda

• Action Girl: Unlike her canon counterpart.
• The Chick
• Lady of War
• Official Couple: If getting engaged pre-story counts, then she and Kyo are the Official Couple.
• Took a Level in Badass: Again, compared to her canon counterpart.
• Yamato Nadeshiko: This of course, is pretty much unchanged from her canon counterpart.
