The Secret in Their Eyes/YMMV

  • Complete Monster: Romano ticks all the boxes without being as dramatised as most examples. He willfully arranges terrible miscarriages of justice and murders without the faintest hint of hesitation or regret. What makes him particularly loathsome is what a believable monster he is, given the nature of the real-life Argentine dictatorship.
  • Crowning Moment of Heartwarming: Esposito's theory that Sandoval, his assistant, hid photos of him in his house and claimed to be Esposito to keep him from being killed by hitman, at the cost of his own life.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Romano, Esposito's superior, lets Gomez, a convicted rapist and murderer, go free and gets him a job as a hitman, apparently just to get back at Esposito for attacking him for having two minorities beaten into confessing to the murder.
  • The Woobie: Ricardo.
