• Adaptation Displacement. There's a book?
  • In Name Only: the book was a collection of (allegedly) non-fiction accounts and theories on the paranormal investigated by the author. The plot of the movie takes a few cues from the book but is largely an original story.
• Narm. For some people, the "CHAAAAPSTIIIICK" scene. Others find it absolutely horrifying. It's pretty much a toss-up.
• Hell Is That Noise: The distorted messages left on several characters' answering machines, as well as the noise Gordon hears coming out of his sink.
  • High Octane Nightmare Fuel for most, however.
