The Megas/Characters
Mega Man~ I Want To Be The One, Lamentations Of A War Machine, History Repeating, Fly on a Dog
I want to be the one who fights for justice! I want to be the one. (I've got to be the one!) I want to be the one who fights against you, Dr. Wily.
If I've a heart made out of steel, then does that mean I cannot feel? Remorse for everything I've done... My hands a smoking gun!
- Chronic Hero Syndrome: (I want to be the one who fights for justice!)
- Combat Pragmatist: He (supposedly) cheats in his duel with Quick Man, using the Flash Stopper to overcome the Robot Master's superior speed. Though after going through Quick Man's deathtrap of a level, Quick Man has no right to complain about supposed cheating.
- Determinator
- Hurting Hero: By the end (Lamentations).
- Mood Whiplash: In I Want to Be the One, Megaman is determined to stop Wily. By Lamentations, he wonders why he fought at all.
- My God, What Have I Done?: By Lamentations of a War Machine, Mega's become quite disillusioned with the whole "saving the world" shtick. He's still not over it by the time 3 rolls over either.
If it were up to me/I'd rewrite history/And change my destiny/One last time...
- Red Baron: Quick Man likes to refer to him as Death.
- Shell-Shocked Veteran: Lamentations.
Dr. Light~ The Message From Dr. Light, I Want To Be The One To Watch You Die[1]
I made you in my image! I built your heart. I gave you eyes. I gave you power. A sense of justice beyond any compare. I gave you hands, a child's face. I gave you HAIR! (Robotic hair!) ...But the burning in your heart I did not put there...
- The Atoner: He wants to use Mega Man to "Clear the name of Dr. Light"
- Crowning Moment of Heartwarming: "They call you hero... I call you my son."
- Tear Jerker: Arguably, The Message From Dr. Light.
Proto Man- I'm Not The Break Man
They lost me, forgot me. Made you from parts of me. If you're the one--my father's son--Then what am I supposed to be?
- Replacement Goldfish: Sees Mega as this.
- The Resenter: Hates Mega Man for a number of reasons—claiming he has free will while still obeying Dr. Light, replacing Protoman as Light's son, and perhaps most of all, being built from Protoman's remains.
I had a name, my father called me "Blues"/He tore my heart from my chest to give to you/I'm not broken; I'm not the Break Man/I was the first, I am the Proto Man
Air Man~ The Annihilation Of Monsteropolis
Do you know what it's like to be built this way? With only the power to push others away? You've a heavy role to bear, do you think you can carry it? I'll usher in the end upon my thunder chariot...
- Badass Boast: has a few during the coda and throughout his song "There will be a tombstone with The Planet Earth engraved on it!"
- Loners Are Evil Freaks: His song implies that his evil is due to "Only having the power to push others away," and "no one in this world understanding who [he is]."
- Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: He laments being built "with only the power to push others away," and decides that "If I can't walk among them... then I will walk the world alone"
Metal Man~ Metal Dance
Welcome to my level, my name is Metal Man. I throw metal blades from my metal hands. I dance around with style and finesse. Better watch out for these blades, or you'll end up headless.
- Arrogant Kung Fu Guy: He spends the song telling Mega Man how awesome he is.
- Department of Redundancy Department: Metal Man throws Metal Blades from his metal hands.
- With a metal dance, in his metal cave. He really likes that word.
- He's JUST THAT METAL...
- Dance Battler
Wood Man~ Carved From Mighty Oak
(Carved from mighty oak!) You’ve come far, you’ve destroyed many of the others. I’ll avenge the death of my robot brothers. (This is not a joke!) Understand I’m different than the robots you’ve seen before. I’ve been born from nature and machines of war.
- Avenging the Villain: His motivation is to avenge his fallen brothers.
- Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Implied by his lines referencing the countless others Mega Man has killed.
- For the Evulz: Though he originally says his motivation is revenge, he still states that "[He] would, if [he] could, destroy all that's good."
Bubble Man~ Promise Of Redemption
There's one thing for which I long... And that is to prove them all wrong!
- Black Sheep: He's aware of it, too.
- Joke Weapon: Out of the eight robots, of all of us/(My power is so..ridiculous...)
- Who's Laughing Now?: Wants to make this happen by killing Mega Man- "I promise you/I won't rest until I have defeated you/They will all see/The strongest of all of the other robots is me"
- The Woobie: You gotta feel sorry for him.
I realise something as I stand here waiting. That I'm the one who I'm really hating.
Heat Man~ Man On Fire
Can you feel the fire? (The fire) Can you see the cities burn? (Those cities burn...) From the depths of hell I call your name! (Megaman!) Can you feel the heat?(Heatman!)
- Ax Crazy
- For the Evulz: The song implies he enjoys burning everyone and everything for the hell of it.
- Hearing Voices: "In my mind, I hear the voices cry--I've made them a promise that Mega Man dies"
- Hot-Blooded: You are the HERO! I am the FIRE! This is the MELTDOWN! Of your DESIRE! Your fight for justice turns to ashes, MEEGAAA MAAAAAANNN!!
- Roaring Rampage of Revenge: "In my mind, I hear the voices cry--I've made them a promise that Mega Man dies"
- Say My Name: ME-GA-MAN!
Flash Man~ Blue Like You
Mega Man is so powerful, I feel my end is near. (I wonder) If there's a chance I could change his mind, so he could join me here.
- Decadent Gay: Though it may just be extreme Foe Yay, lines like "I've always admired Mega Man, and his flawless design/I wonder what he will think of my blue suit, and this helmet of mine" and "Hey Mega Man, join my side/And let me stop this moment in time/You'll be mine, forever!/This moment will last forever!/One last moment together!" strongly imply it
- Foe Yay: So much.
- Hero Worshipper: Which wouldn't be as blatant if it weren't for the fact that the hero was hunting for his blood.
- Time Stands Still
- Stalker with a Crush
- Stepford Smiler: "What Mega Man and my brothers don't know is this flash is all for show/'Cause inside, there's nothing there and there's nothing to me, I'm empty and I'm hollow."
- "This flashy suit and this flashy stage, I use only to hide/The fact that I am lonely and I need somebody like Mega Man by my side."
Quick Man~ The Quick and the Blue
Quick on the draw. In this town, I am the law. Is what they say true? Does Death wear blue? Can he fall?
- Miles Gloriosus: His lines indicate that he's afraid of Megaman, and knows he's probably going to die, but he boasts to the crowd "A Megaman is coming to die!" and "The moment of truth has arrived!"
- Most of all, though, he seems to be trying to convince himself of his victory, acting confident despite calling the Blue Bomber Death. The ending part can be viewed as him going from denial(What they said is a lie/The shots are heard as the bullets scream death as they fly.) to a form of acceptance(My moment has come/Your speed means nothing if it's Death that you're running from!)
- When the crowd gathers for his fight with Megaman, though, it does say that "He knew he couldn't tell them / That he was the quickest of all / Would this be the day that he falls?"
- Mook Horror Show: Quick Man's lyrics indicates he knows just how screwed he is.
- Names to Run Away From Really Fast: As mentioned above, he refers to Mega Man as Death. And he acts like he'll beat him. Yeah Quick Man's in heavy denial.
- Screw Destiny: "The fate that he would defy/A Mega Man is coming to die!" Um, yeah, about that...
- Showdown At High Noon: In addition to the song itself having a western feel, the fight with Megaman's framed as one of these.
- The Sheriff: Fitting with his song being played as The Western, Quick Man is portrayed as the town's sheriff. "Quick on the draw. In this town, I am the law."
- Villainous Valour: Despite knowing he has no chance against Mega Man, who he sees as Death himself, Quick Man refuses to back down.
- Face Death with Dignity: At the end Quick Man calmly accepts his end. "My circuits slow, I'm not scared anymore. I see the faces of my brothers who have fallen before."
Crash Man~ Programmed to Fight
Closer draws the final hour. To break Wily's walls you will need my power. But to your aid an unlikely friend, programmed to fight 'til the very end.
- Blood Knight: Against his will. He was programmed to fight after all.
- Driven to Suicide: It's implied he kills himself at the end after gaining enough will to overcome his programming
- I Cannot Self-Terminate: Until the very end, at least.
- I Let You Win- It's also implied that he's trying to do this throughout the song, eventually overcoming his programming and allowing Megaman to kill him.
- The Greatest Story Never Told- Though both of the above are popular theories, Crash Man himself says it best-- "No one will know the truth to this story."
- Fighting From the Inside- Pretty much the only thing certain about Crash Man is that he doesn't want to kill Mega Man, but he is, as the song title goes, Programmed To Fight, and is trying to go against his programming, one way or another.
- Title Drop: "But to your aid an unlikely friend./Programmed to fight 'til the very end!"
- Turned Against Their Masters: Crash Man isn't shown to be rebelling due to any sort of sense of justice, but instead simply out of a hatred for his creator.
Elec Man~ Evolution of Circuitry
I say they owe us a debt. Today, it's time to collect. I have the ability to rectify.
- Do Not Adjust Your Set: As the song ends, radio static followed by generic muzak is heard, implying the whole song was a hijacked broadcast.
- Obliviously Evil: He's convinced he's the good guy, believing it's time to "Power Up The Revolution" to put an end to human cruelty against robots. Despite Wily reprogramming him to conquer on his behalf.
- Wide-Eyed Idealist: How he comes across, partly due to his song being the cheeriest one on this page.
Bomb Man~ Beneath the Steel
You've lit a fuse inside me, and now my instincts guide me through... To what I must do! (CUE: EXPLOSIONS!) Now I know why they made me. Something has changed beneath the steel! The robot can feel!
- A.I. Is a Crapshoot: Bomb Man's AI develops what he believes are real and true emotions... and just so happens to become a psychopath as a result.
- Loves the Sound of Screaming: Fire in once lifeless eyes / Motivated by their cries!
- Darker and Edgier: Hard to believe one of the darkest songs ever made by The Megas came from Bomb Man's theme, isn't it?
- Hot-Blooded
Fire Man and Ice Man~ Hell Has Frozen Over
The impossible unity, the two of us make three. While everything's coming down, they will see, that we set them free, and they will believe that hell can freeze.
- Blood Knight & Defrosting Ice Queen: Implied by the line- "Now that you've warmed up to me/My temper's at a lower degree/It feels like this dichotomy was meant to be"
- Fusion Dance: Implied, but it's probably meant to be metaphorical. Still, lines like "Thus begins our epic fusion" and "Together we are The Chosen One" are sprinkled throughout their song. If it is literal, it seems like Fire Man is the dominant personality, since he seems to do all the talking.
- Hell Freezes Over: He/They never thought that this fusion could be. A variation of this trope name is even the name of their song!
- Title Drop: The lines in the chorus are literally 2/3s "Hell Has Frozen Over" being repeated.
- Wasted Song: Ice Man really got the shaft in this song. Namely, the fact that the entire second half of his theme is noticeably missing. Keep in mind that all the MM 2 robots had every part of their themes show up at some point.
Spark Man~ You've Sparked A War
I feel my hands turning into fists. I see my brothers; they will be missed. We are the chosen, we are the pure. They are the virus, we are the cure.
- Fantastic Racism: "We are the chosen, we are the pure. they are the virus, we are the cure."
- Fridge Logic: How can his hands be "turning into fists" when he doesn't have hands? They're just giant prongs!
- Obliviously Evil: Like Elec Man before him, he's convinced he's the good guy, this time fighting against humans because robots are superior ("We are the chosen, we are the pure, they are the virus, we are the cure").
Magnet Man~ Don't Fuck With Magnet Man
- Crowning Moment of Funny: Don't Fuck With Magnet Man
- Knife Nut: The reason you shouldn't fuck with him.
- Memetic Badass
Top Man~ Can't Stop the Top
Their chances are thinning. I dodge bullets when I'm spinning. New plans are just beginning. I've hit the top!
- Dance Battler: "Don't shoot me while I'm dancing."
- Memetic Mutation: Can't stop the top!
Snake Man~ Walk Away From Light
And what of the one who calls us sons, are you gunna kill him too? 'Cuz who are you? You're a man's metal son the same as every one of us! Become one of us. You can win this fight, but you gotta join our side.
- Not So Different: Points this out near the beginning of the song.
- We Can Rule Together: Tries to tempt Mega Man into disobeying Light and joining him, much like a certain other snake in mythology.
Dr. Wily~ Look What You've Done, I Want To Be The One To Watch You Die [2]
Can you not feel that we could have a life forged in steel? I only ask that you see what I see. This is the answer, why won't you believe?
- Big Bad
- Just Think of the Potential: Wily sees something in the machines he creates, though admittedly as tools for conquest and replacing humanity.
- Rival Turned Evil: To Dr. Light.
"Our paths diverged upon a road/You chose a darker plain to sow/I watched you turn from friend to foe/It had to end like this, I finally know..."
- Well-Intentioned Extremist: He sees himself as this, to an extent.
- What the Hell, Hero?: He calls out Light for hiding behind Mega Man.
