The LEGO Movie
Everything is awesome!
The LEGO Movie is the first theatrically-released film about...LEGO, released in 2014.
In A World where everything is made out of LEGOs, ordinary construction worker Emmet Brickowski (Chris Pratt) stumbles upon the fabled Piece of Resistance and bumbles into a prophecy in which he may be the only person capable of stopping the evil President Business (Will Ferrell) from ending the world as we know it. Unfortunately, he's not exactly the heroic type.
This concept belies a massive spoiler, so tread carefully!
- The Blank: Emmet's face is the classic LEGO smiley face, while everyone else has eyebrows, fancy hair, and other decorative elements.
- The Chosen Zero: Early on, Emmet is not very impressive, to say the least.
- Cloudcuckooland: Our heroes visit it.
- Cloudcuckoolander: Princess Uni-Kitty, "ruler" of Cloud Cuckoo Land. Benny, the Nineteen Eighty-Something Space Guy, is pretty "out there" as well.
- The Generic Guy: Emmet's face is so generic that facial recognition software can't pick him out of a crowd.
- Good Cop, Bad Cop: In the same person, as Bad Cop/Good Cop. He's one of the newer kinds of figures with faces printed on both sides of his head.
- Merchandise-Driven: Naturally, one can buy LEGO sets depicting important vehicles, buildings, characters, and events from the movie.
- Prophecies Rhyme All the Time:
One day, a talented lass or fellow,
A special one with face of yellow,
Will make the Piece of Resistance found
From its hidden refuge underground.
And with a noble army at the helm,
This Master Builder will thwart the Kragle and save the realm,
And be the greatest, most interesting, most important person of all times.
All this is true, because it rhymes.
- Self-Fulfilling Prophecy: "The only thing you need to be special is to believe that you can be." Vitruvius made up the prophecy because he knew that whoever found the Piece of Resistance would be emboldened by the prophecy to grow into being the person it predicted they would be.
- Shout Out: Just as the fictional Voyager 6 became V'ger in Star Trek, the legendary "Kragle" is actually Krazy Glue.
- Benny's "Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP!!!" is a huge nod to Classic LEGO Space sets.
- Talking to Himself: Liam Neeson voices Bad Cop, Good Cop, Bad Cop imitating Good Cop, and Pa Cop.
- True Art Is Angsty: Batman certainly thinks so.
Batman ("Untitled Self-Portrait"): Darkness! *guitar riff* No parents!
- Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny: Pretty much this in LEGO form -- all of the classic themes (and many newly-licensed themes) duke it out together.
