The LEGO Movie

Everything is awesome!

The LEGO Movie is the first theatrically-released film about...LEGO, released in 2014.

In A World where everything is made out of LEGOs, ordinary construction worker Emmet Brickowski (Chris Pratt) stumbles upon the fabled Piece of Resistance and bumbles into a prophecy in which he may be the only person capable of stopping the evil President Business (Will Ferrell) from ending the world as we know it. Unfortunately, he's not exactly the heroic type.

This concept belies a massive spoiler, so tread carefully!

Tropes used in The LEGO Movie include:

One day, a talented lass or fellow,
A special one with face of yellow,
Will make the Piece of Resistance found
From its hidden refuge underground.
And with a noble army at the helm,
This Master Builder will thwart the Kragle and save the realm,
And be the greatest, most interesting, most important person of all times.
All this is true, because it rhymes.

  • Self-Fulfilling Prophecy: "The only thing you need to be special is to believe that you can be." Vitruvius made up the prophecy because he knew that whoever found the Piece of Resistance would be emboldened by the prophecy to grow into being the person it predicted they would be.
  • Shout Out: Just as the fictional Voyager 6 became V'ger in Star Trek, the legendary "Kragle" is actually Krazy Glue.
  • Talking to Himself: Liam Neeson voices Bad Cop, Good Cop, Bad Cop imitating Good Cop, and Pa Cop.
  • True Art Is Angsty: Batman certainly thinks so.

Batman ("Untitled Self-Portrait"): Darkness! *guitar riff* No parents!
