The Keep/YMMV

  • Complete Monster: Erich Kaempffer. Moreso in the film than in the book. In the book, he just shouts and threatens a lot. In the movie he actually has people shot.
    • Don't forget Molasar, in both book and movie.
  • Crowning Moment of Awesome: Two come to mind for the movie. The first is when Glaeken, resisting the SS while being shot picks one of them up and chucks his ass down a bottomless gorge. The guy's scream on the way down is a hoot. This is contrast to the novel where Glaeken just stands there and gets shot.
    • Also Glaeken's triumphant return at the end and Molasar's reaction to it.

Molasar: YOU!

  • Crowning Moment of Funny: In the movie, Kaempffer attempts to ward Molasar off with a silver cross. For a moment, it seems to work, and Kaempffer starts acting a smug. Then Molasar grabs it and crushes it in his hand like a Coke can in front of Kaempffer's terrified eyes before killing him.
  • Crowning Music of Awesome: Tangerine Dream's score for the film is one of the primary reasons it has become so beloved by its fans over the years, the pounding opening titles theme in particular.
  • High Octane Nightmare Fuel: In both movie and book, Molasar does ghastly things to kill the German soldiers. The background of the titular keep, with the generator and lights sputtering on and off, only drives the viewer's unease higher.
