The Icewind Dale Trilogy/YMMV

  • Girls Need Role Models: Catti-brie actually becomes less of the wise, mature badass she's played up to be the more time in the limelight she gets, becoming more and more akin to a Straw Feminist than the cool, strong woman she starts off as. By the end of the Icewind Dale Trilogy, she's come into her own, but as the series progresses, despite the fact that the other characters and Salvatore himself maintain that she's the definition of a strong Action Girl, it's either this or Faux Action Girl moments that come to define her, which suggests Salvatore thinks this is what feminism is.
  • Nightmare Retardant: An odd variation that only comes about because of a retcon to the Dungeons and Dragons rules. It's emphasized that only fire can kill trolls in Streams Of Silver, and an anecdote is related of many a scavenger or predator that had come across a severed troll body part only to be horribly killed from the inside out as the troll regenerated. However, in another Salvatore book set in the Forgotten Realms (one of The Cleric Quintet novels), the rules had since been expanded to include acid as a way of putting a troll out of commission permanently, and the characters use both acid and fire on trolls. Now, what's in a stomach?
