The Godfather/Heartwarming

  • After Sonny's death at the tollbooth, Don Vito has Tom call the mortician Bonasera to repay the favor he owes. Bringing Sonny's body to funeral parlor, Vito begs for the favor:

Vito: I want you to use all your powers, and all your skills. I don't want his mother to see him this way. (he pulls away the sheet to reveal Sonny's bullet-riddled corpse. After a moment, Vito begins crying) Look how they massacred my boy...

  • Subverted in Part II, near the end when Mama Corleone passes away and Connie talks Michael into forgiving Fredo for his accidental betrayal. Michael comes out of hiding and hugs his grieving brother... only to coldly look up toward Al Neri, who nods quietly back to his Don. This is the Darker and Edgier sequel: Michael's not about to forgive anyone...
  • Luca Brasi thanking Don Corleone. As funny as his rehearsal is, you can tell it comes from the heart. While Vito didn't want to speak to him initially, he is very touched by the thanks and even calls Luca his most valued friend.
  • When Johnny Fontaine comes to Connie's wedding. It's heartwarming on so many levels. Because Johnny Fontaine is Vito's Godson, it touches Vito that he came all the way to California. Connie despite wearing a big wedding dress, practically hops all the way to him to give him a hug. While it's clear he showed up for a favor from his Godfather, due to trouble he has in California, it doesn't hinder him from signing autographs or singing for Connie and her mother. Even when Vito slaps some sense into him, he doesn't do it out of malice, but to calm down his hysterically depressed Godson and even after offers to help him out with Woltz. Specifically telling him to go downstairs, eat and enjoy himself at the wedding.
