The Core/YMMV
- Critical Research Failure
- Crowning Moment of Funny: Near the end, Zimsky is, once again, waxing philosophic into his recorder. Suddenly, he stops and realizes that he's locked alone inside on the the Virgil's ejected sections, he's submerged in the molten core of the Earth, and he's next to a nuclear bomb that's seconds away from detonation. He lowers the recorder and says, "What the f--- am I doing?" He literally dies laughing moments later.
- Freud Was Right - Take a closer look at that poster. And tagline.
- Ham and Cheese (Stanley Tucci as Conrad Zimsky)
- High Octane Nightmare Fuel: the scene where they show the cabinet members exactly how the planet is going to get cooked by cosmic rays. Yikes.
- MST3K Mantra: Science, Schmience -- break out the popcorn and enjoy!
- So Bad It's Good: As Roger Ebert puts it: "I have such an unreasonable affection for this movie, indeed, that it is only by slapping myself alongside the head and drinking black coffee that I can restrain myself from recommending it."
- They Just Didn't Care - In an interview with Hilary Swank she actually said "Since no one knows what the center of the Earth really looks like, we can make up all sorts of stuff." At least the writer managed to reject the Executive Meddling calling for dinosaurs Beneath the Earth.
