• Canon Sue: Catherine is a beautiful, successful woman. She is the only psychiatrist who goes on the expeditions into people's minds; the other psychiatrists just stand in the control room taking notes and talking about how great she is. She loves children, only sees the good in everyone, and redeems the evil sadistic serial killer by turning into a warrior princess and slaying his inner demon.
  • This becomes even more irritating when you consider that the original script had Stargher's inner demon being killed by his good side- who also carried out the baptism mercy kill.
• Complete Monster: Averted. This is what it appears Carl is at the start, but it is then revealed he's the Woobie (see below).
• High Octane Nightmare Fuel
• Just Here for Godzilla: Many people only watch/enjoy the movie for its incredible costume and set design.
• Narm: When Vince Vaughn's character is investigating Carl's murders, he comes to the conclusion that though the decreasing care in hiding the bodies means the killer wants to be caught, "If we don't stop this guy, he's not going to stop himself!'
• Squick: The horse, the dolls, the intestines... take your pick.
