The Artist/YMMV

  • Ear Worm: The entire soundtrack. There's a reason it won the Oscar for Best Soundtrack.
  • Ensemble Darkhorse: Jack, George's dog, has gotten a lot of love, and is probably remembered most fondly.
  • Jerkass Woobie: As much as George suffers, he brings a lot of it on himself; he's arrogant, vain, and inexplicably cold to his wife.
  • Oscar Bait: At the risk of sounding cynical, but it is true.
    • Could be considered an aversion, as the director wasn't thinking about awards when making the film but to have fun with the homages to the silent era.
    • It really isn't. A silent movie hasn't even been nominated for Best Picture since 1928.
    • But it does practically worship Hollywood and film making, plus it's a return to a classic style.
  • Tear Jerker: That ending... Dear God that ending!
    • Let's just put it this way, this film is notorious for making the audience sniffle like crazy once it gets to the scene where George almost shoots himself as well as when Peppy catches him in the act.
    • The one film canister that George clung onto after being saved from the fire.
