• Adaptation Displacement: To the point that any new printings of the book are now titled The Thirteenth Warrior rather than Eaters of the Dead.
• Complete Monster: The Wendol - a Cannibal Tribe composed of vicious, bloodthirsty murderers who only live for the mist to kill and eat human flesh (children included). They also keep their victim's remaining bones as trophy.
• Values Dissonance: Old Norse culture sees the number 13 as a good thing.
