This is the second SRW with a focus on time travel, the first being Super Robot Wars Alpha Gaiden. Depending on the player's choice, the game revolves around either Raul Gureden or Fiona Gureden, pilot of the prototype rescue unit "Excellence", alongside co-workers Raji Montoya and Mizuho Saiki. Equipped with the Time Flow Engine into the Excellence, the three ally with the Nadesico B or the La Cailum, hoping to promote their machine for funding towards further development. However, a mysterious being named Duminuss wishes to use the Time Flow Engine for its own purposes. Things take a turn for the worse when Raul/Fiona are accidentally sent to the past, where they have to make a decision to let history flow as it is or attempt to correct the events leading to the present, in order for a better future.
- A-Cup Angst (One of Duminuss' Quirky Miniboss Squad, Tis, has this as her plight (never mind that she's a loli) [[spoiler:In a heart-wrenching moment of sacrifice, Duminuss asks what they wanted if they are to be reborn; Tis answers "I want a body with a sexier form and bigger breasts".
- Anti-Villain Big Bad: Duminuss
- Apologetic Attacker (Despinis' "I'm sorry" *BOOM* attack quotes)
- Back From the Dead
- One notable accomplishment by one of the homunculus, Despinis, is she's the one responsible of utilizing the Devil Gundam Cells to resurrect Master Asia from the dead and use him as a slave. Master Asia would be freed from her control after he's defeated by the Round Knights as well as receiving a heavy dose of Getter Rays from the awakened Shin Getter
- Emperor Gore does this, since the Shin Getter Vs. Neo Getter OVA's plot is required.
- Chest Blaster (Excellence Lightning's Black Sun, Mazinger Z's Breast Fire, Great Mazinger's Breast Burn, Shin Getter Robo's Getter Beam)
- Combination Attack
- Combattler V and Voltes V: Choudenji Spin V no Jigiri
- G Gundam: Double God Finger (performed by God Gundam and Nobel Gundam), Double Sekiha Tenkyoken (performed by God Gundam and Master Gundam), Love Love Finger (performed by God Gundam and Shining Gundam), and Shuffle Alliance Fist (God Gundam, Gundam Maxter, Dragon Gundam, Gundam Rose and Bolt Gundam)
- Martian Successor Nadesico: Buttercup Formation (performed by Aestivalis-Ryoko, Aestivalis-Hikaru, and Aestivalis-Izumi) and Double Gekigan Flare (performed by Aestivalis-Akito and Aestivalis-Gai)
- Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger: Double Burning Fire, Double Mazinger Blade and Double Mazinger Punch.
- Final Dynamic Special (performed by Shin Getter Robo-1, Great Mazinger and Mazinger Z)
- Gundam X: Double G-Bits and Double Satellite Cannon (Gundam X and Gundam Double X)
- Daitarn 3 and Zambot 3: Sun Moon Attack
- Combining Mecha (Neo Getter Robo, Shin Getter Robo, Combattler V, Voltes V, Gundam Double X with G-Falcon)
- Cool Sword (Excellence Lightning's Dimension Slasher and Daitarn 3's Daitarn Zanber)
- Crucified Hero Shot (Excellence Eternal's Final Grand Cross)
- Degraded Boss (Devil Gundam and its 3 forms and the Grand Master Gundam)
- Enfant Terrible (The homunculi are created to be like this, but Lalia and Despinis show genuine kindness now and then)
- Evil Knockoffs (Mass produced Great Mazingers, fake Combattler Vs, Devil Aestivalises)
- Fastball Special (One of Tiz's attacks is essentially her golem throwing her at the enemy)
- FemBot (Excellence Eternal is clearly more feminine-looking than the Excellence Lightning)
- Fix Fic (Reversal prevents the downer endings of some shows, the fictional downer endings of events that are supposed to come to a good end, and averting Chars Counterattack, Zambot 3's Downer Ending and Prince of Darkness)
- Fridge Brilliance (Neo Getter-1 gets a new weapon (a machinegun) seemingly out of nowhere...until you remember Episode 2 of the OVA, where Prof. Shikishima shows off a machinegun and mutters to himself about making a scaled-up version for the Getter.
- Giant Robot Hands Save Lives (Implied in one stage where Killer the Butcher decides to recreate Galileo's famous gravity experiment...using Relena Darlian and a Federation soldier as the dropped objects. No points for guessing which Stoic Badass Hitman with a Heart comes sweeping in to save them.)
- Gratuitous English (Courtesy of Jack and Mary King, no less)
- Guns Akimbo (Excellence Cosmodriver and Texas Mack)
- Huge Guy, Tiny Girl (Durgatel's partnered with a towering golem-like machine called Pater used in most of its attacks)
- Little Miss Badass/Cute Bruiser (Tiz, Lalia and Despinis can beat the Shuffle Alliance in a fist fight!)
- Magikarp Power (Gear Fighters Dendoh and Ogre have an habit of only being able to recover energy one of two ways: resupply by a specific unit or returning to a carrier to recharge. However, near the end of the game, if one defeats the final enemy of the series three times in a row, it will unlock a new form for the two machines which completely recharges their energy every turn.)
- Not only that, getting this last form for them gives Dendoh a new, very powerful attack in its base form that can be used for a pittance compared to its other finishers.
- Meaningful Name (Duminuss' name is possibly derived from the Greek word dunamis, meaning power. The names of Despinis, Raria and Teis are also of Greek origin, meaning miss, speech and matter, respectively)
- This also extends to their mechs: Eleos means mercy, Hypokrisis is derived from hypocrisy, and Thugater and Pater are derived from the words for daughter and father respectively.
- Multi-Armed and Dangerous (Hypokrisis)
- Multicolored Hair (Raul's black-red hair)
- One-Winged Angel (Duminuss does this TWICE)
- Our Homunculi Are Different (They have superhuman strength and look like kids, since most people wouldn't harm a child)
- Post Script Season (For G Gundam, as the Gundam Fight has ended and Master Asia is dead.)
- Princess Curls (Despinis)
- Put on a Bus (Akatsuki Nagare and The Seven Mycene Generals are not present in the game.)
- Quirky Power Trio (Tiz, Lalia and Despinis)
- Tiz is the Id because she is quite bratty and impulsive.
- Lalia is the Ego because he acts as the mediator between Tiz and Despinis.
- Despinis is the Superego because she handles the complicated task of constructing the second Time Flow Engine.
- Redemption Demotion (An exception: after fighting the rival robot of GEAR Fighter Dendoh, Gear Fighter Ogre, you can get it and its stats will go down, but if during a route split you choose to fight the Brainwashed and Crazy Hokuto, who's using the Ogre, after the battle you get him back and find out the bad guys put Ogre back to the stats it had before and you get to keep them this time)
- Robeast (Slave Beasts, Mechasauruses, Mecha Boosts, Beast Fighters and Warrior Beasts)
- Rocket Punch (Mazinger Z's Rocket Punch, Neo Getter-1's Chain Knuckle, Zambot 3's Arm Punch and Great Mazinger's Atomic Punch and Drill Pressure Punch)
- Rule 63 (Variation: Raul and Fiona are essentially the male and female counterparts of the same person in Reversal. In Original Generations, they're brought in as Half Identical Twins)
- Screw Yourself (There's plenty of Raul/Fiona imagery from Super Robot Wars fans)
- And, naturally, this goes to Twincest levels in Original Generation
- Sequential Boss (Duminuss, Dangel in Scenario 13 of the Nadecisco path and Scenario 24 and Ankoku Daishogun in Scenario 24)
- Shrinking Violet (Despinis, complete with blue hair)
- Sphere of Destruction (an unlockable attack for Shin Getter: Stoner Sunshine)
- Super Mode (Shining Gundam's Super Mode, God Gundam's Meikyou Shisui, Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger's Mazin Power, Neo Getter Robo-2's Neo Getter Vision, Shin Getter Robo's God Getter mode and the Wing Gundam's Zero System)
- Swords Akimbo (Hypocrisis)
- Swiss Army Weapon, Mecha Expansion Pack (The Excellence is the ability to change into a variety of frames suited for different forms of combat and terrain. They include Cosmodriver (space), Striker (melee), Gunner (long-range), Flyer (air) and Diver (water). The final frame, depending on the chosen protagonist, is the Lightning (Raul) and Eternal (Fiona). The Aestivalis also have ground assault, aerial, artillery, and space combat frames.)
- This Is a Drill (Neo Getter-2 and Shin Getter-2)
- The Unfought (Yami No Teiou)
- Wave Motion BFGs (Gundam X and Gundam Double X's Sattelite Cannons, Zambot 3's unlockable Ion Cannon and Wing Zero's Twin Buster Rifle)
- Villain Override (Subverted touchingly: Duminuss is fatally wounded by the heroes, and the Replacement Goldfish sacrifice their souls to heal it... but their bodies keep going, still determined to carry out their last wish. Even more touchingly, Dumniuss asks each of them what they desire, promising to fulfill it when it resurrects them)
- Villain Team-Up (Duminuss works with the Galfa, Gaizok and the Frost Bros.)
- Wouldn't Hurt a Child (Played with: Duminuss has a trio of homunculi as henchmen. The homunculi, despite posing superhuman strength, are all children. This is because Duminuss knows most people will hesitate to fight children. It's eventually averted as they sacrifice their "mind" to heal the badly injured Duminuss, forcing the player to kill them all)
