Star vs. the Forces of Evil
It's gonna get a little weird, gonna get a little wild
I ain't from 'round here, I'm from another dimension!
Star vs. the Forces of Evil is a Disney XD animated show premiered in 2015, created by Daron Nefcy and developed by Jordana Arkin and Dave Wasson.
Star Butterfly is the princess of the magical kingdom of Mewni who, after brutally misusing the powerful magic wand under her care, is banished (temporarily) to Earth, to live with an human family and learn how to use her powers reponsibly. There, she befriends Marco Diaz, the son of her host family. Together, they have to deal with everyday school while fighting the numerous factions who want to steal Star's wand for themselves.
- Black Comedy: Bad things happen to background characters and we aren't always shown they are okay. In episode one Star turns a flying insect into a monster and it carries off a background character who we never see again.
- Edible Smelling Salts: The spider uses a taco to wake Ludo up.
- Matriarchy: The kingdom in Mewni is implied to be this.
- Children take the surname of their mother and husbands take the surname of their wives.
- Star's mom has a bigger say in matters than her dad.
- Into the Wand revealed Eclipsa Butterfly has the same surname as Star and is Star's ninth great grand mother. Eclipse was also queen of Mewni.
- The wand, a powerful heirloom of the royal family, is implied to be passed from mother to daughter, rather than simply parent to child.
- In Star Comes to Earth Star receives the wand from her mother.
- In Mewberty, Glossaryck, the personification of the spell book says his job is supposed to only help princesses.
- In Mewnipendence Day it's stated that Mewmans settled Mewni, the wand was owned by the queen.
- In Into the Wand the queens in the Grandma Room the queens are depicted are each holding a item that is presumably the wand.
- In Baby the picture of Star and her parents, Star's mom is holding the wand.
- Magical Girl: Star
- Oddly Visible Eyebrows: Not only can you see Star's eyebrows, you can see the parts of her eyes that her hair covers too.
- Rubber Forehead Aliens: You know those hearts on Star's cheeks? They aren't tattoos, and they aren't make up. The alien aspect is much more prominent and a lot less Rubber Forehead during mewberty. After (and if) the mewman going through mewberty returns mostly to normal, that mewman gets a pair of almost vestigial wings (at least in Star's case). Star's mom can transform into and out of her mewberty form as she pleases.
