Star Trek Shatnerverse
The Shatnerverse is a series of Star Trek Expanded Universe novels written by William Shatner with Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens.
The series (there's ten in all) do a pretty good job at making what Shatner wanted to happen reconcile with the main Trek continuity, although there is still an element of Marty Stu to his character.
There are ten novels in all, split into trilogies:
The Odyssey trilogy:
- The Ashes Of Eden (published 1995) (set in 2293)
- The Return (published 1996) (set in 2371)
- Avenger (published 1997) (set in 2373)
The Mirror Universe trilogy:
- Spectre (published 1998) (set in 2375)
- Dark Victory (published 1999) (set in 2375)
- Preserver (published 2000) (set in 2375)
The Totality trilogy:
- Captain's Peril (published 2002) (set in 2378)
- Captain's Blood (published 2003) (set after 2379)
- Captain's Glory (published 2004) (set in 2381)
and his last work to date,
- Starfleet Academy: Collision Course (set in 2249, incorrectly gives Kirk's age as 17)
Tropes used in Star Trek Shatnerverse include:
- Aborted Arc
- Bizarre Alien Biology: Captain Raddison is a sentient potted plant, and has no outward indications of being any more complex than she looks.
- Fandom Nod: During The Return, Spock is very nearly assimilated by the Borg... only for them to stop, much to Spock's own confusion. Why? As fandom has long theorized about the main continuity, the Borg are the race V'Ger met at the other end of the black hole, and because Spock mind-melded with V'Ger, the Borg mistake him for one of their own.
- Human Mom, Nonhuman Dad
- My Species Doth Protest Too Much: There's a female Orion scientist in The Return who has Federation citizenship and makes a point of dressing unsexy.
- Landfill Beyond the Stars
- Locking MacGyver in the Store Cupboard
- Take a Third Option
