Spawn/YMMV

  • Complete Monster: Clown. aka the Violator And Jason Wynn. Revealed in the comics to actually be possessed by Clown. As well as Malebolgia,Billy Kincaid, and Mammon.
  • Crowning Moment of Funny: From the HBO series, in response to Clown being an annoying Jerkass:

Spawn: Shut up, before I permanently introduce your face to your colon.

  • Crowning Moment of Heartwarming: One episode of the HBO series has Al using his shape-shifting ability to come back and talk to Wanda. He doesn't find her, but he does find his granny, resulting in an extremely heartwarming scene.
    • Shortly after the above, Sam and recently brain-damaged Twitch have a rather heartwarming moment, which is also massive Ho Yay.
    • Also in the HBO series, in the finale when Al uses his shroud to allow his granny to see her husband one last time.
  • Magnificent Bastard: Wynn
    • Malebolgia, too
      • Mammon beats them both hands down. Even though Malebolgia was ruler of the Eighth Sphere and referred to as "King of Hell", it is said that he was a flea in comparison to Mammon who in turn was a flea to Satan until the retcons that is..
  • Memetic Mutation: "USE YOUR ARMOUR!!!"
  • Special Effects Failure: The movie's computer effects (The majority of which done by ILM) have not aged well since its 1997 release. Spawn's cape only appears when in use (either for dramatic effect or when he's actually using it), since it was extremely difficult to animate. Plus, [1]'s mouth does not remotely follow the words he speaks, and Hell just looks like something out of a (sub-par, mind you) Pixar movie (an extremely dark Pixar movie for it to depict Hell, but still).
  • Spotlight-Stealing Squad: Clown, played with scenery-chewing gusto by John Leguizamo, steals the show in the movie.
  • Unfortunate Implications: Not so much in the comic (there's nothing IMPLIED about any of it), but there is a case in The Movie. Spawn comes to his home to find his wife married to Terry and is lying in their yard, when Cyan comes to offer him some candy. It makes sense that they would grab their daughter and keep her away from the strange man, but its doesn't speak well of them that once they saw this man appeared to be a homeless burn victim in severe pain, their reaction was to call the cops rather than the paramedics.
  1. Not done by ILM, but another company.
