What Could Have Been: Originally, Snow Crash was planned to be a computer-generated graphic novel with art by Tony Sheeder. Stephenson jokes in the acknowledgements section that this scrapped plan and the custom image processing software that it required meant "I have probably spent more hours coding during the production of this work than actually writing it."
