Smile Empty Soul
Smile Empty Soul is a post-grunge band formed in 1998 in Santa Clarita, California. They have so far released four albums (Smile Empty Soul, Anxiety, Vultures and Consciousness) with a fifth on the way. Its current line-up consists of Sean Danielsen, Ryan Martin and Jake Kilmer.
Smile Empty Soul provides examples of the following tropes:
- Empty Shell: Empty soul, actually.
- Indecipherable Lyrics: In "Bottom of a bottle" is the lyric "I do it just to feel like I'm ahhh ahh ahhhhahhh!" (Its supposed to be "Feel like I'm alive!")
- Romanticized Abuse: Implied in "Don't Ever Leave" between the singer and the person he's singing about.
- Self-Titled Album: Their very first album is named after the band itself.
- Sliding Scale of Idealism vs. Cynicism: Go ahead and try to find one positive thought in any of their songs. We'll wait.
- Some Anvils Need to Be Dropped: Their songs cover a variety of touchy subjects and they most certainly are not afraid to be blunt with the points they are trying to make.
- Stepford Smiler: Invoked with their actual name, no less.
- War Is Hell: "This is war" and "God's army" are both good examples.
