Abdul Rashid Salim Salman Khan, or just Salman Khan, is an Indian film actor who appears in Bollywood films. Along with his surnamesakes Aamir and Shah Rukh, he is considered one of the "Three King Khans" who had dominated the industry during the last 30 years. He is also often nicknamed "Bhai" (it translates like "Bro" in an affectionate way) for his popularity and his warm public image. Despite notorious controversies on his private and public life, he is still one of the most admired and beloved Bollywood stars, often appearing in lists on "Sexiest Men Alive" around the world.

Khan, who made his acting debut with the film Biwi Ho To Aisi (1988), had his first commercial success with the blockbuster Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), and won a Filmfare Best Male Debut Award for his performance. He went on to star in some of Bollywood's most successful films of the 1990's, such as Saajan (1991), Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994), and Biwi No.1 (1999), having appeared in the highest earning films of five separate years during his career.

In 1999, Khan won a Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for his extended appearance in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), and since then has starred in several critical and commercial successes, including Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), Tere Naam (2003), No Entry (2005), Partner (2007) and Dabangg (2010). Khan has thus established himself as one of the most prominent leading actors of Hindi cinema.

Kahn is notorious for being an avid enthusiast of bodybuilding and showing off his body in every film he stars, to the point that having him in at least one Shirtless Scene is the signature of every film he is involved with. Several actors, like Hrithik Roshan and Arjun Kapoor, claim that Kahn is their inspiration to stay in perfect shape. Along with his acting career, he has hosted several TV shows; he has hosted the Indian version of Big Brother, Bigg Boss on 8 of its 11 seasons. Kahn is also a playback singer, and has recorded songs for the soundtracks of several of his films.

Salman Khan provides examples of the following tropes:
    • Career Resurrection: while he actually has never to undergone this, he has helped some other actors to get back theirs. Notoriously, he brought Govinda back into relevance by casting him as his co-star in Partner.
    • Shirtless Scene/Walking Shirtless Scene: his bread and butter. No matter the film, he always find a way to get at least one shirtless scene, often in extremely hilarious ways, like the "Growing Muscles" Sequence in Dabangg where his shirt spontaneously rips off and escapes his body and that scene in Bodyguard when he gets his shirt off by a water current in a way that must be seen to be believed.
