  • Rush had one in 2007 after he criticized Jesse Macbeth, an anti-war Army recruit discharged during basic training who had falsely claimed to be a decorated Iraq War ranger veteran, as being a "phony soldier." Of course, this happened during a hot phase of the Iraq War, so a number of elected officials opposed to the conflict sent a letter to the people at Clear Channel corporate headquarters, asking them to censure him. Neither of these incidents are the CMOA, though; rather, it was when he took the letter and auctioned it off on eBay for $2.2 million dollars (on a lot that started at $100) and matched the result with an equal amount of his own money, giving $4.4 million to the Marine Corps.
