• Family-Unfriendly Aesop: See Unfortunate Implications.
• Harsher in Hindsight: The episode "I'm Here to Kill a King", which deals with a political assassin, was originally scheduled to air on the night of November 29, 1963. After the real-life assassination of President John F. Kennedy exactly one week earlier, CBS pulled the episode from its schedule, and it was not seen until the show went into syndication.
• Unfortunate Implications: "A Lance of Straw" is absolutely the victim of Values Dissonance and Unfortunate Implications. In the episode, there is a fishing boat captain to whom Buz says "Some day, you're going to have to do something about the fact that you're not a man, no matter how much you might want to be." He then turns to The Taming of the Shrew for tips on how to "handle her" and belittles her taste in reading, which runs to biographies of Susan B. Anthony and Joan of Arc and women's rights. If one is very charitable one might hypothesize that he is reacting against her Real Women Never Wear Dresses persona. But at the end of the episode, she hooks up with the man who has pursued her because she'll now be satisfied because she has a man in her life. And she's thrown out her feminist literature, which makes Buz grin.
  • Slightly redeemed from unrepentant misogyny by the "A boat can have two captains" line from a satellite character, but Buz is basically a Licensed Sexist.
    • While Buz himself wears pink. A man can be anything he wants to be. A woman is a woman.
