Romeo + Juliet/YMMV

William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet

  • Non Sequitur Scene: The whole Mercutio dance number. Granted Romeo was high at that point but it really comes out of nowhere.
  • Breakaway Pop Hit: The soundtrack exposed a few songs, most notably The Cardigans' "Lovefool" and the choral version of "Everybody's Free (To Feel Good)" (nowadays known as "Wear Sunscreen").
  • Ear Worm: The entire soundtrack, special mention to the infamously catchy "Lovefool".
  • Ham and Cheese: Whether you love it or hate it, the actor playing Mercutio was having way too much fun in his role.
  • Narm: A choir is singing a nice ballad during Romeo and Juliet's wedding, and it adds a haunting feeling to the sequence...until you realize that the song they're singing is Prince's "When Doves Cry".
  • Retroactive Recognition:
  • Tear Jerker:
    • The death of Mercutio.
    • The ending, which wouldn't have happened if Romeo had just looked down and seen Juliet waking up.
