William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet
- Non Sequitur Scene: The whole Mercutio dance number. Granted Romeo was high at that point but it really comes out of nowhere.
- Breakaway Pop Hit: The soundtrack exposed a few songs, most notably The Cardigans' "Lovefool" and the choral version of "Everybody's Free (To Feel Good)" (nowadays known as "Wear Sunscreen").
- Ear Worm: The entire soundtrack, special mention to the infamously catchy "Lovefool".
- Ham and Cheese: Whether you love it or hate it, the actor playing Mercutio was having way too much fun in his role.
- Narm: A choir is singing a nice ballad during Romeo and Juliet's wedding, and it adds a haunting feeling to the sequence...until you realize that the song they're singing is Prince's "When Doves Cry".
- Retroactive Recognition:
- Michael plays Mercutio!
- Hey, look, it's Rotti Largo as Juliet's dad!
- Tear Jerker:
- The death of Mercutio.
- The ending, which wouldn't have happened if Romeo had just looked down and seen Juliet waking up.
