• Enforced Method Acting:
  • Audrey wasn't told beforehand of Peck's stunt at the Mouth of Truth. Hepburn's reaction therefore is both genuine and spontaneous: exactly what Wyler was looking for.
  • When filming the scene where the princess says her goodbyes to Joe, the inexperienced Hepburn was unable to produce the necessary tears, eventually causing director to complain at the number of wasted takes. Hepburn promptly burst into tears and the scene was filmed successfully.

  • In the Gundam metaseries, both Wing and Unicorn made homages to Roman Holiday: in Wing, one of Relena's dresses was designed after Princess Ann's dress, and in Unicorn, the "Runaway Princess" movie poster is a copy of the movie poster for "Roman Holiday".
  • Azalyn in Irresponsible Captain Tylor talks about being a fan of the movie. Since she's an empress forced by circumstances to take the throne at a young age, the parallels between Azalyn and Ann are obvious.
