Quintet
Quintet is a 1979 Robert Altman film starring Paul Newman, Bibi Anderson, Fernando Rey, and Vittorio Gasman.
It's humanity's last gasp as an ice age covers the earth and mankind is pushed to the fringes of existence. Once great-cities now lie in ruins as people forage for food and dogs eat corpses in the streets. With no future and only the barest sense of civilization, a mania arises for a tabletop game called Quintet. Unfortunately, some people take it a little too far...
Tropes used in Quintet include:
- Apocalypse How: Appears to be heading somewhere between Class 4 and Class 5.
- Badass Normal: Essex.
- Crapsack World
- Dead Person Impersonation: Essex when he takes over Redstone's identity.
- Deadly Game
- Gaia's Lament
- Hope Spot: A rare example of one occurring early in the story when it's discovered that Vivia is pregnant, a near-miraculous event. She's killed by a bomb directly after.
- Just Before the End
- Monochrome Casting
- Stuffed in The Fridge: Vivia.
