Princess Mononoke/YMMV

  • Anvilicious: The good side of it.
  • Broken Base: Other Ghibli dubs have fallen into this atmosphere, but viewers can't seem to decide if the Miramax/Disney dub is good in its own right or a watered down travesty to the original Japanese. Purists stubbornly declare it's the latter, but there are fans of the English dub. In the end, you'll have to decide if you like it or not.
  • Crowning Music of Awesome: The whole album. By Joe Hisaishi no less. Particularly the hauntingly beautiful main theme.
  • Funny Moments: Koroku gets a few of these, plus Toki and the other girls. There's also Ashitaka twisting the blade of Gonza's big sword as though it were paper, which doubles as a Moment of Awesome.
    • Ashitaka jumps off a ledge, lands, then immediately keels over and rolls down a hill because he's still weak from blood loss.
  • Hey, It's That Voice!: The English dub is made of this. Billy Crudub, Claire Daines, Gillian Anderson, Minnie Driver, Billy Bob Thornton, Jada Pinkett Smith, among others.
  • High Octane Nightmare Fuel: Several examples, such as Nago's death, the transformation of the Forest God, and the assassins wearing the skins of dead boars.
    • One battle scene also has the Iron Town riflemen shooting a volley at a charging army. As the smoke is clearing you can hear a guy yelling "MY AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARM!!!!"
      • Not only can you hear him, but if you look real close you can see the guy staring in horror at the ragged stump where his arm used to be.
  • Magnum Opus: Most people consider either this or Spirited Away to be Miyazaki's best film.
  • Narm: Ashitaka rips off the arms of a samurai and heads off another with arrows. It is intended to make his curse more sinister, but it's also kinda funny and bloodless. Maybe done intentionally.
    • "FOREST SPIRIT! WE GIVE YOU BACK YOUR HEAD! TAKE IT! AND BE AT PEACE!"
    • "MY ARRRRRRRRRRRRRM!!!"
  • Tear Jerker: Oh so many times, starting at just 10 minutes in.
    • The scene where all of the Kodama are falling from the treetops and vanishing, obviously dying.
  • Ugly Cute: The Kodama. Weird, haniwa-esque facial "expressions" and occasionally shake and rattle their heads, yet oddly cute at the same time.
