Philthon Jones

Philthon Jones is a comedy trio made up of Philip Smith, Anthony Mercer, and James "Jones" Cope. The videos on their YouTube channel are posted every Wednesday (supposedly), and include the Caught Chatting series (wherein the stars discuss the news, review random books, and attempt to form anagrams from people's names - then they get points), and the "Faux To" Guide series Do It The Philthon Jones Way, as well as assorted short random videos in the same vein as Loading Ready Run.

Philthon Jones provides examples of the following tropes:

• Acting for Two: happens fairly often. "Bargain Hunt" memorably features three separate characters played by Philip, and two by Anthony.
• Affectionate Parody: "Doctor Who: The Musical", "Bargain Hunt", "Deal or No Deal", "Four Funerals" (a parody of the TV show Four Weddings), and "I May Know What You Might Have Done Yesterday".
• All There in the Manual: Sort of - the name of "Man who Cannot Think of a Superhero Name" is not mentioned in the main part of "The Hyper Heroes", but it is mentioned in one of the Hilarious Outtakes during the credits.
• And Starring: with Kieron Papps
• Badass Normal: None of the characters in "The Hyper Heroes" have any powers.
• Clark Kenting: In "The Hyper Heroes", Bipolar Man attempts this by taking off his glasses and wearing a police helmet. It works on Man who Cannot Think of a Superhero Name, but not on Tramp Boy.
• Couch Gag: The Philthon Jones intro. It started out (for the first three videos) as someone just saying "Philthon Jones", but there have been variations since - one video even had the intro segue into the episode itself.
  • The logo also changed for one video, where Jones was replaced by a pack of scones.
• Credits Gag: An episode made while Jones was unavailable credits him with "Not Starring".
• Fake Nationality: One of the characters played by Philip in "Bargain Hunt" has some sort of unidentifiable cross between French, German, and Cockney accents that needs to be seen to believed. Jones also does a weird accent, although it is closer to German, in "The Murder of Lord Avocado".
  • Fake American: Anthony has attempted this a couple of times, in "The Murder of Lord Avocado" and "The Meeting".
• "Faux To" Guide: The Do It The Philthon Jones Way series.
• Hilarious Outtakes: a few videos include them - and even when there aren't true examples, the camera sometimes continues to roll during the credits, picking up whatever happens afterwards.
• Idiosyncratic Episode Naming: Caught Chatting follows the pattern of Two and A Half Men, naming each episode after a quote from it.
• One of Us: This article was started by Anthony!
• Only Known by Their Nickname: It's Jones, not James.
• Panel Show: Caught Chatting is presented in this format.
• Real Life Writes the Plot / Absentee Actor: "Emergency Appeal" was caused by Jones not turning up to a recording session.
• Reading the Stage Directions Out Loud: Necessary in "Doctor Who: Episode Zero"
• Running Gags: A few, including "Bingo!" and the 75 dead starlings.
  • The Do It The Philthon Jones Way videos make a running gag of "£9.99, postage and packaging not included", although the line is said in the latest video as "£9.99, no postage and packaging".
• Schedule Slip: supposedly weekly, but there's only been one update since January 2011.
• Story Arc: Almost - Jones went missing in "Emergency Appeal", and didn't appear in the next two either - the first of those went as far as to replace him with a pack of scones (it rhymes with Jones), and the logo was edited to reflect that.
• Superheroes Wear Capes: "The Hyper Heroes", the most traditional one being Man who Cannot Think of a Superhero Name.
• The Points Mean Nothing: Caught Chatting - amounts of points have included "Jones", "sine minus one ninety", and "Homestar Runner".

• Wrong Turn At Albuquerque: Referenced in the suitably named episode "I knew we should have taken a left at Albuquerque".
