Penny and Aggie/The Race Card/YMMV
- Memetic Mutation: "Worse than Hitler!"
- Outgrow the Trope
- Lagacé's original concept for Penny and Aggie involved the title characters engaging in ongoing, relatively low-stakes Passive-Aggressive Kombat. Occasionally, one would have a moment of empathy for the other and attempt to reach out to her, only for Status Quo Is God to reassert itself. In this arc, Aggie's public accusation that Penny is racist drives a much deeper wedge between them, and thus neither makes a completely unselfish attempt to help or even understand the other until Suicide Run, when they bury the hatchet. Campbell has said that he quickly became bored with what he's described as the initial "Tom and Jerry" concept of the series.
- Aggie started out as a Deadpan Snarker with regard to Penny, often getting under her skin but Penny never truly getting under hers. Again, Campbell has said he grew bored with this characterization of Aggie, so in this arc she drops her facade of disdain and sarcasm, and reveals her visceral anger and hatred over what she assumes Penny stands for.
