• Ability Over Appearance: When casting Julia, producers wanted a relatively young actress (the character was 15 at the time) but ended up casting the 19-year-old Neve Campbell due to her strong attitude during the audition.
• Actor Allusion: Julia is a 15-year-old girl who is able to pass for 21 with a fake ID (allowing her to work in a bar). As noted above, Neve Campbell was 19 in the first season.
• Dawson Casting: 19-year-old Neve Campbell and 26-year-old Scott Wolf played 15-year-old Julia and 16-year-old Bailey respectively. See Ability Over Appearance to note that producers tried to avert this with regards to Julia.
• Fake Brit: Alison the gay English girl is played by Aussie Poppy Montgomery.
• Hey, It's That Guy!: Several cases. None other than Brittany Murphy makes two guest appearances in the first season. And the main cast is comprised of Neve Campbell, Lacey Chabert, Matthew Fox and Jennifer Love Hewitt.

  • Justin's mother is Lois.
  • One of Charlie's girlfriends is Dr. Camille Saroyan.
• The Other Darrin: Griffin was played by James Marsden in the Season 1 finale and by Jeremy London for the rest of the series.
• Star-Making Role: For Neve Campbell, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Matthew Fox, and Lacey Chabert.
• Typecasting: Neve Campbell as a Shrinking Violet.
