    In Continuity Editing, the pre-edit edit. The director and editor sit down with the raw footage and simple equipment, and mark out the timecodes and positions for all the edits in the program. This is where most of the artistic and technical decisions are made.

    Depending on the equipment used, the editing plan can be inputted into the Online Edit equipment, and the program can be assembled mostly hands-off.

    Since many more inexpensive workstation-based editing systems are available today, the process of offline editing may fall by the wayside soon.
