Moonrise Kingdom
A twee, quirky Wes Anderson film. But we repeat ourselves.
Sam and Suzy, 12, make a pact to run away together, he from his scout troop and she from her parents. The film opened the 2012 Festival de Cannes.
Tropes used in Moonrise Kingdom include:
- All of the Other Reindeer: The Khaki Scouts, to Sam
- A Storm Is Coming: The narrator even tells us exactly when.
- Because I Said So: "I can't argue with anything you said, and I don't have to, because you're 12."
- Childhood Marriage Promise: Sam and Suzy, unofficially.
- Cloudcuckoolander: Sam and Suzy.
- Deconstruction: Lampshaded
- Does This Remind You of Anything?: Suzy yelps when Sam is the first to penetrate her ... earlobe, with a fishhook.
- Ensemble Cast
- Everything Sounds Sexier in French : Suzy and Sam kiss for the first time after dancing to French singer Françoise Hardy's song, Le Temps de l'amour.
- Everyone Calls Her Social Services: Though she did give her name.
- Giant Wall of Watery Doom: Washes away the sign for the annual performance of Benjamin Britten's Noyes Fludde
- Offscreen Moment of Awesome: When Suzy stabs one of the Scouts. It's apparently an epic fight, that results in the motorcycle up a tree and Snoopy getting shot. We see none of it.
- Only Known by Their Nickname: Lazy-eye, and some of the other Khaki Scouts.
- Production Posse: Though Owen Wilson sat this one out, and Bill Murray has a smaller than usual role (presumably because he was filming Hyde Park On Hudson).
- Title Drop: In Sam's painting at the end.
- Travel Montage: Also, communication.
- Unspoken Plan Guarantee: Throughout. "I need chicken wire and shredded newspaper"
- In fact, that plan fails only when it's actually described
- Wes Anderson: As trope as much as creator.
