Alternate Character Interpretation: Thus far, from both the story itself and Author's Notes...
- Gendo is an awesome Dad for once.
  - Though as Episode 5 revealed, he's still quite the Manipulative Bastard.
  - And a Magnificent Bastard, as seen in Episode 8.
- Ritsuko is...passionate about SCIENCE.
  - Though she also seems to have Gone Mad From the Revelation.
- Pen-Pen is described as Special. Of course, we already knew that, but it's nice to see it acknowledged. Case in point: Pen-Pen is a Gundam pilot.
- Shinji is a "Goku-like Determinator."
- Rei is an Icy, queenly Drill Sergeant Nasty. However, she's still quite Moe, as seen in Episode 5.
- Asuka is a cheerful, excitable Innocent Fanservicing fangirl.
Magnificent Bastard / Jerkass: Most see Gendo's appropriation of the Jet Alone as an example of magnificent bastardry, though at least one reader likened him to being a political bully.
