Missile Command/Trivia
- Port Overdosed: Aside from its numerous console/computer ports, it's hard to name an Atari compilation in which Missile Command isn't included.
- Working Title: The game was originally supposed to be called Armageddon. It was a cool name. It does a admirable job of hammering home the point of the game. Or at least it would have if it wasn't for the fact that virtually no-one knew what that word meant at the time. Virtually no-one knowing how to spell it at the time also didn't improve the prospects of it getting released under that title.
- What Could Have Been:
- The cities in Missile Command were originally based on California cities. This was dropped so it would resonate more with a wider audience. This worked, without being told what the cities were, people were able to, and did, consider the cities to be ones they were familiar with, regardless of where they lived (at least if the lived in a city, perhaps with the added requirement that other cities existed not ridiculously far away.)
- The idea of reloading the missile bases by train was considered.
- An additional set of levels involving firing back at the never-seen enemy was also dropped.
