Mexican Revolution/YMMV

These are facts from events during the Mexican Revolution that have been biased from either side, decades after they happened. For example, the Cristero War would be an equivalent to the U.S. Secession War; like that one, you'll find Cristero apologists using similar arguments to those who still cheer for the CSA.

• Grey and Gray Morality: A decade after the drafting of the Constitution, the Cristero War broke out, due to a faulty interpretation by leaders in the PNR party (now PRI) of several laws pertaining to separation of church and state.
  • According to Cristeros and some descendants from those who supported them, this conflict almost destroyed Catholicism in Mexico, if not for the bravery of the Catholics who stood their ground against the government, and sometimes managing to win against all odds. The men responsible for the conflict, like Plutarco Elías Calles and Tomás Garrido Canabal, were sent into exile by their political peers when they saw that their methods were going overboard and were bound to drag Mexico again in a pointless conflict.
  • In fact, the Cristeros themselves committed brutal acts like mass killings of government supporters and cutting teacher's ears off. While Calles' administration did have a hard stance against the Catholic Church, the Cristero uprising wasn't nice at all. Calles was not exiled for this conflict, but because of Lázaro Cárdenas, who silently waited until he was made President under the PNR/PRM/PRI and put the boot to Calles because he was ruling from the shadows for six years in the span of three presidents.
