< Meg

Meg/YMMV

  • Anvilicious: Steve Alten does not like certain people. Especially the type who govern Middle Eastern nations.
  • Complete Monster: Michael Maren in Primal Waters. He was pretty nasty in The Trench, but his actions here are downright horrifying. He makes a fake competition all to lure Jonas in so he can use his pet Megalodon Scarface to take his revenge for Jonas getting famious from the Megalodons, fully knowing that hundreds of people will likely be killed in the process. He has absolutely no remorse about this, nor does he give a darn when that shark eats his Dragon. While he did suffer a bit due to Jonas' best friend in the second book, it was ultimately due to being a major Jerkass who had it coming and it does nothing to justify what he does.
  • Crazy Awesome: Jonas. Mother. Fucking. Taylor. Has so many batshit-insane moments that the third book even resorts to Lampshade Hanging, with a group of reckless daredevils idolizing him. Jonas isn't pleased. He then goes on to sink the villain's modern yacht using a centuries-old cannon, and prevent the villains helicopter escape by riding a torpedo into into the helicopter with the shark chasing him and knocking the copter out of the sky.
    • Mac also has elements of this
  • Crowning Moment of Awesome /CrowningMomentOfFunny: The series loves doing both.
  • God Mode Sue/Villain Sue: The Megs in general, but Angel in particular. Most Egregious is when she is in the process of winning a fight against a Liopleurodon who is twice her size, has already casually devoured another megalodon, and is admitted to be faster and more agile!
    • Steve Alten spends entire chapters devoted from just how badass the Megs are. Their senses can detect a molecule of blood in 100 million miles of ocean (or some other ridiculous figure). Blinding them makes them stronger as their other senses compensate and now they can hunt during the day. Temperature differences in the water make them more energetic and hungrier. They can bite enormous holes in whales and feeding them more food makes them hungrier. Flashbacks show a Meg eating a t-rex, and being worshiped by primitive humans. Their smell drives whales to madness.
  • Narm: In the fourth book, a team that's working for Dubai by scouring the depths is getting chased through an underwater cavern by some huge Icthyosaurs. One of the members of the team says something along the lines of "Jesus Christ!". At that point in time another member of the team (a priest) decides to shout at him "Don't Blaspheme!". Really? That's so important to you at this time?
  • So Bad It's Good: At this point, it might be deliberate.
