Mashiro-iro Symphony
Kagami Academy and Yuijo Girls' Academy are merging thanks to financial troubles in their district. It's at this point that we meet Shingo Uryuu and his little sister, among the students from Kagami joining in the merger. While searching for his sister, Shingo runs into Airi Sena. Little does he know that she's attending Yuijo, and against the merger. Now, Shingo will meet new classmates and have new adventures, and maybe fall in love.
Mashiro-iro Symphony, originally a Visual Novel by Palette, was adapted into a Fall 2011 Anime by Manglobe.
Tropes used in Mashiro-iro Symphony include:
- Accidental Pervert: Shingo, more than a few times.
- A-Cup Angst: Played With, Sana asks Ange gives her one of her Meido uniforms. Ange reply that the outfit might be loose and baggy around certain areas and Sana's not amused.
- Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Miu's Hot Mom. You have no idea.
- Animated Adaptation / The Anime of the Game
- Averted Trope: This anime seems fond of averting tropes at the last second.
- A few examples:
- Crash Into Hello: Who wasn't expecting that to happen on the first episode when Airi appears out of the bushes dragging Sakuno by the hand.
- Disproportionate Retribution: taking into account that Shingo already saw pretty much every single girl in the main cast naked (or close to it) , including Miu's Mom, it's a wonder that he never got at least slapped for it. (He did get some retribution but for other reasons).
- First Girl Wins / Last Girl Wins: Neither Sakuno nor Sana, because Shingo ends up with Miu. (In the anime at least)
- Balanced Harem: All the heroines gets their fair focus of screentime and balanced focus. However, the focus shifts more and more towards Miu as the anime goes on, and she ends up being the winner.
- Except Sakuno. She had the first half of the first episode and that's about it.
- Beautiful Dreamer: Miu falls asleep on Shingo's shoulder after he tells her that Sana doesn't care much for him.
- Bittersweet Ending: Shingo and Miu are a happy couple, and are implied after the credits in the final episode to have opened a restaurant together. Everyone else, especially Sana and Airi, are still dealing with the pain of unrequited love.
- Bromantic Foil: Hayata is this to Shingo. Justified that he has an Arranged Marriage.
- But Not Too Foreign: Ange
- Caught in the Rain: Airi and Shingo
- Caught the Heart on His Sleeve: Episode 6
- Childhood Friends: Airi and Sana
- Childish Button: Try to take out Ange's maid headdress, and she becomes a Cry Cute.
- In the afterstory in drama CD she can maintain sanity in this situation longer.
- Class Representative: Both Airi and Shingo are elected in the second episode.
- Cooking Duel: Sakuno vs. Ange over Shingo; followed by a back-washing duel.
- Sana, when the Nuko Club releases a squirrel they had cared for.
- Cute Kitten: The two abandoned kittens discovered by Sana.
- Defrosting Ice Queen: At school, Airi's slowly opening up to the new coed student body. Outside of it, she was already a pretty nice person.
- Does Not Like Men: Machi-sensei is frightened, though she is working to get over it.
- Airi, in the school.
- Sana, as well
- Elaborate University High
- Friend to All Living Things: Miu and she has the scars to prove it.
- Hair Decorations: Every single one of the heroines.
- Head Pet: Pannya enjoys sitting on Miu's head or shoulder.
- Hot Mom: Yuiko Amaha
- Ranka Sena too, by a different meaning of "hot".
- Huge Schoolgirl: Sakuno is the tallest female character, despite being the youngest.
- Indirect Kiss: Discussed when Miu offers Shingo the can of hot chocolate she took a sip from.
- Japanese School Club: The Nuko Club, which cares for injured animals. It's not until halfway through the series that it becomes an officially recognized club.
- Lens Flare Censor: A few times, special mention goes to episode 9 where the censor appears WAY before it happen.
- Younger Sibling Fetishization: Sakuno
- Lonely Together: The declaration of every one of the main girls by the end of episode 11. Though some people already were pairing up Airi and Sana because of Sana's breakdown and Airi's help a few days prior.
- In the same situation in game, only Airi and Sana are affected.
- Luminescent Blush: Pretty much every main character at one point or another.
- Meido: Ange, the "wandering maid" as she calls herself. Her mother is also one, according to drama CD.
- Miko: Yutsuki Onomiya, exclusive to the PSP version of the game. She has a Cameo near the end of the last episode of the Anime.
- Nice Guy And Girl: Shingo, Ange and Miu
- No Sense of Direction: Sakuno
- Pinky Swear: Episode 9, between Shingo and Miu to curb the latter's tendencies of not relying on anyone else.
- Pre Meeting: Sakuno and Shingo run into Airi before the inevitable meetup at the first day of school.
- Returning the Handkerchief: Inverted between Sana and Shingo.
- Ridiculously Cute Critter: Pannya and others of her kind.
- Running Gag: Machi-sensei is still single despite of being in late 20s.
- Second Year Protagonist: Shingo
- Sensei-chan: Machi-sensei
- She Is Not My Girlfriend: Shingo, when rumors spread that he and Sana are dating.
- Shipper on Deck: Ange
Ange: "It's also a maid's job to secretly help nurture Master's love."
- Sakuno as well, particularly in episode 10. She drags Ange out of the clubroom to give Shingo and Miu some alone time. Hilariously, Ange is clueless as to why the two of them are sweeping a place that she's already swept, and when asked for a reason why, Sakuno's only response is "It's a secret."
- The Stoic: Sakuno.
- Suspiciously Specific Denial: Towards the end of episode 9.
- Student Council President: Shingo's Bromantic Foil Hayata is this to Kagami, inexplicably.
- Third Person Person: Ange
- Third Option Love Interest: Miu
- Transfer Student Uniforms: Students from Kagami wear a blue uniform, in contrast to the white one worn by the Yuijo girls.
- Trauma Swing: How Airi finds Sana after the Indirect Kiss incident, and again when Sana realizes that Miu is the one Shingo has feelings for.
- Tsundere: Airi and Sana.
- Twelve-Episode Anime
- You Gotta Have Blue Hair: Sakuno; Ange has green hair.
- Yutsuki has purple hair. See Miko above.
- Zettai Ryouiki
