A spinoff of TNT's The Closer, Major Crimes will begin airing in August 2012 and will star Mary McDonnell as Captain Sharon Raydor, alongside much of the parent show's Major Case Squad. Raydor is slated to take the helm of the MCS after the departure of Kyra Sedgwick, the heroine of the parent show.

Despite not having produced a single episode, the show already has a small but devoted fan following, both from The Closer's existing fanbase and from fans of Mary McDonnell, many of whom are turning up because Mary is in it.
