Log Horizon
Log Horizon is a light novel series written by Mamare Touno that has been adapted into a 2-season anime series.
The MMORPG Elder Tale has become a global success, having a following of millions of players. However, during the release of its twelfth expansion pack, thirty thousand gamers who are all logged on at the time of the update suddenly find themselves transported inside the game world and donning their in-game avatars. In the midst of the event, a socially awkward gamer called Shiroe along with his friends Naotsugu and Akatsuki decide to team up so that they may face this world which has now become their reality along with the challenges which lie ahead.[1]
Compared to .hack and Sword Art Online, Log Horizon is more educational and subdued, focusing on game logic, mechanics and the players' lives as they all adjust to living with another society.
A share of spin-offs were made for the story: a web side-story (Dragonshowl Mountains), and at least three different manga. Honey Moon Log and West Wind Brigade are Interquels based on the first two books, while Chief Nyanta's Recipe of Happiness has more to do with Slice of Life. There's even a rulebook for a tabletop RPG based on the series.
Yen Press began publishing the series in July 2015, while West Wind Brigade's first volume was published in January 2016.
