• And the Fandom Rejoiced: Many X-Men fans, after he was assigned writing duties for Astonishing X-Men. Whedon has made no secret of the fact that he's been an X-Men fan for years, and his 24-issue run turned out to be one of the most critically acclaimed runs in the series history. It redeemed the series for many fans who were unhappy with Grant Morrison's run.
  • And of course, him helming The Avengers movie.
• Anvilicious: Can occasionally get into this.
• Creator Worship: And how. Dollhouse was renewed for a second season despite low ratings because network executives knew they would receive fifty thousand emails from Whedon's decidedly vocal and devoted fanbase if it were canceled.
  • They call it the Cult of Joss for a reason.
• Designated Protagonist Syndrome: Seen by some as a repeat offender. Buffy and Echo are often considered boring, overly-shilled or just outright annoying in comparison to the rest of the cast. Depending on whether you see her as the protagonist, River also sometimes falls into this territory.
• Dropped a Bridge on Him: He's been increasingly accused in recent years of relying too much on randomly killing characters off, so that it's started to lose any power. Paul Ballard from Dollhouse really got the ball rolling on this.
• Sci Fi Ghetto: It's hard to say whether Whedon and his works suffer from this stigma or not. Whilst on the one hand he receives a fair amount of academic and critical praise and support, on the other his works are also prone to Executive Meddling -- such as irregular scheduling and abrupt cancellation or being kept in development hell -- and are repeatedly and notably overlooked for awards.
• Too Good to Last: Arguably considered the Trope Codifier by many, the most notable of this being Firefly.
  • Really, of all his four (so far) Tv Series, only Buffy the Vampire Slayer was ended on his own (and the actors') terms rather than unceremoniously cancelled (though Angel's five-season run was quite impressive).
• Tear Jerker: Damn you and your writing talent, Joss Whedon!
• The Woobie: Several examples stick out, such as Willow and River, but really, if a series goes on for long enough, EVERYBODY becomes one of these near the end. Joss is not nice to his characters.
