Hyperbole and a Half/YMMV
- Crowning Moment of Heartwarming: "Isabelle", particularly the second-to-last paragraph.
- You wouldn't expect it, but "An Open Letter to my Boyfriend, the Serial Killer" is a surprisingly sweet post.
- Ensemble Darkhorse: Spaghatta Nadle and Simple Dog. In both cases this was recognised, and more comics were made focusing on them.
- High Octane Nightmare Fuel: Attempted when young Allie tells her younger sister the 'scariest story in the world'. Backfires.
- Simple Dog's internal monologue telling her to roll around on a dead animal. The visual aid is pretty disturbing.
- CAKE. CAKE IS THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS.
- Memetic Badass: Kenny Loggins, of which her family's descriptions of him read like the Chuck Norris Facts.
- Memetic Mutation:
- I like this alot.
- I like this alot more.
- Her "Why I Will Never Be An Adult" post is the source for a lot of her merchandise, particularly "Internet Forever".
- [verb] ALL THE THINGS!
- Nightmare Fuel: For 2nd grade Allie, the skeleton man.
- "Wolves," if not for the reader, then for poor Benny.
- Paranoia Fuel: Again from "Skeleton Man", the eponymous Skeleton Man made young Allie extremely paranoid about the basement bathroom where the Skeleton Man supposedly lurked.
- Tear Jerker: Adventures in Depression offers a very realistic portrayal of depression and the self-loathing that comes with it. Many of the scenes are still funny, but in a brutally depressing manner. "Oh, you're going into the kitchen? Cool. Go f*ck yourself." Thankfully, it ends with a Crowning Moment of Heartwarming.
- The Woobie: Allie, full stop, because of all the ridiculous crap that happens to her.
