Hamlet/Trivia
- Beam Me Up, Scotty:
- One of the most common misquotations ever; the Alas, Poor Yorick line goes "I Knew Him, Horatio.", not "I Knew Him Well."
- Another is "The Queen doth protest too much" or "Methinks the Queen doth protest too much." The actual line is "The lady doth protest too much, methinks."
- Also, when Hamlet is referenced in media or other fiction, it usually combines his "To be or not to be." with the image of him holding Yorick's skull, which is a different scene altogether.
- Dawson Casting: MAD joked that in the 1990 film version, Hamlet and Gertrude seem to be the same age. While not quite the case, it is bizarre to have Mel Gibson - 34 at the time of production - play the son of then-43-year-old Glenn Close (yet another example of Playing Gertrude... although at least Gertrude was older than Hamlet, unlike the 1948 version).
- Executive Meddling: Kenneth Branagh was only able to get financing under two conditions: a) an All-Star Cast and b) and shorter cut for wider release.
- Trope Namer:
