Guild Wars 2/YMMV

  • Cliché Storm: The trailers. Cool visuals, cool screenshots, "Now is the time! Claim your destiny! Forge your legend! ".
    • The banner ads that went up when prepurchases started continue this fine tradition, with such catchy phrases as "Lead the Rebellion," "These are dangerous days to be different..." and "Rise Up!" none of which seem to have anything to do with the game.
  • Crowning Music of Awesome
  • Hate Dumb: Holy Dwayna do not mention this game on the TOR's forums. The nicest thing they will do is claim you're being paid off by Arena Net to tout a terrible game in the hopes of hurting TOR, while talking about how TOR is the greatest MMO of all time and will crush GW2 mercilessly beneath its heel. WoW players are generally nicer about the whole thing, probably because WoW isn't going anywhere and GW 2 lacks a subscription fee, so they can play both games if they so choose. Why TOR's community in particular displays such hatred for GW 2 is beyond this troper's understanding.
  • Fan Dumb: Perhaps unsurprisingly this is already popping up, right now the biggest complaints are gems being a way to buy to win [1] and the lack of arenas, there's also the E-sport crowd versus those who want to play the game for its PVE.
  1. despite that they've explicitly said you can't use gems to get anything that gives you an edge over other players.
