Green Day/YMMV

  • Awesome Music: Most of Dookie, along with "Brain Stew/Jaded" and "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)".
  • Broken Base: And how.
  • Ear Worm: Much of Dookie qualifies as this.
    • But Warning has the biggest Ear Worm of their career... Sing it with me...
      • CASTAWAY!!!
    • Going at it alone!
      • CASTAWAY!!!
    • Now I'm on my own!
  • Epic Riff: "When I Come Around", "Brain Stew", the bass riff of "Longview", the entire first half of "Panic Song."
  • Face of the Band: Billie Joe. Although, it's a rare band where most fans know the names of all three members.
  • "Grand Theft Auto" Effect: "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" being on Seinfeld.
    • Tropers of a certain age probably remember this song in connection with endless Photoshop slideshows of pictures from camp, high school, clubs, sports, etc. Overplayed doesn't even begin to cover it.
  • Ho Yay: I hate to be that fan Billie Joe kisses every concert, but, it happens.
    • Especially seeing as, during a recent concert, Billie sang "So go do what you like/I'm having sex with Mike." And a picture from a very recent Canada show where Tre is on his knees in front of Billie Joe, who has a mic between his legs. Oh, and an old video of Tre and Billie randomly kissing (while shirtless) in the middle of a set.
    • "I have a very sneaky suspicion that something very bizarre is about to happen..."
  • It's Popular, Now It Sucks: Dookie led to screams of "sellout" that persist to this day.
  • Misaimed Fandom: "Good Riddance," which Billie Joe wrote to express bitterness at his girlfriend for breaking up with him before going abroad, is exceptionally popular at weddings, Bat Mitzvahs, graduation ceremonies, and other events that involve slow dancing. Though to be fair, the lyrics aren't that bitter.
    • It could be argued that the real Misamed Fandom is from the fans convinced that it's bitter even though there's nothing in the music or the lyrics that really suggests that. Billie Joe has even stated that while it was written after a breakup, he was trying to put his best face forward on it. The only thing to hint at bitterness is the song's Non Indicative Title.
  • Misattributed Song: Several, including "Flagpole Sitta" by Harvey Danger and numerous others
  • Sequel Displacement: The only pre-Dookie song most people know is "Welcome to Paradise" (which is on that album, but was originally in the predecessor Kerplunk).
  • Squick: They originally planned to name their first major-label album Liquid Dookie, inspired by eating spoiled food whilst on tour and catching diarrhea. The execs shot down the idea, settling for just Dookie instead.
  • What Do You Mean It Wasn't Made on Drugs?: Subverted twice; once in "Longview," where Mike's epic bassline actually was made under the influence of LSD. And it was surprisingly catchy.
    • And then Billie got high for the music video of "Brain Stew/Jaded" to get the right feel of the song. How did they get him to sing/lip-sync on drugs?
